Following its successful return to the mainline last May, Railroad Days 2013 is lining up sponsors and participants for May 4 & 5 at the Fullerton Train Station. The city of Fullerton has endorsed the event, and the Southern California Railway Association will again host its FREE, family weekend celebrating all things trains from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday..
Dozens of Amtrak passenger trains and Metrolink commuter trains roll through Orange County each day – plus countless BNSF freight trains. Railroad Days aims to raise awareness of railroad safety, especially for children, and remind folks of the region’s historic rail connections to the citrus and oil industries.
SCRPA volunteers are in the planning stages with Amtrak, BNSF and Metrolink, and talking with Disneyland about a rail-related exhibit. We will feature more than 40 train exhibits and displays, with extensive model layouts in all scales and a scenic garden railway. Displays will include vintage photographs and finely detailed models of historic train depots and scenes along the railways. We will also offer an expanded food court, special kid-size activities and several surprise exhibitors.
As part of the event, SCRPA will present our 14th annual Railroad Safety Poster Contest open to more than 11,000 local elementary students. Citywide winners’ posters will be on display at the Welcome Center.
SCRPA is currently seeking corporate and individual sponsorships with a goal of obtaining sufficient community commitment to present Railroad Days, expected to once again draw upwards of 30,000 people over the two days.
Sponsors of Railroad Days 2013 in Fullerton will benefit from the significant advertising exposure they will have with the crowds of train fans and families. Our surveys last year were completed by groups representing 1,187 people. This sampling showed they came to Railroad Days 2012 from an amazing 107 towns throughout California, including 30 Orange County cities, as well as other states.
A 501(c)(3) corporation, SCRPA promotes rail-related educational programs, activities and venues for all ages. Donations to Railroad Days 2013 are tax deductable to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Our ultimate goal is to develop the Southern California Railroad Experience (SCRX), a premier, interactive museum-type destination attraction providing a historical insight into the contributions railroads have made to the Southland’s growth and development.
