Punk roots fuse with Americana, forming a band led by Fullerton local Albert Garcia.
Albert Garcia is a homegrown musician whose roots in punk were established at the same time our town was becoming a hub for the burgeoning counterculture. However, talented musicians are constantly pursuing new paths and destinations, which led Albert Garcia to his latest endevour. The band’s name, Guaqeros, directly translates to "grave robbers," but Garcia insists that he’s only digging throu
Local musicians cover all types of genres, and in this century being an audiophile comes at the click of a mouse. Fullertonian, Paulino Aldana, has played previously as a guitarist for a couple bands, but an influence in electronic dance music pushed him in a new direction. Now he spends most of his musical creativity on mixing together tracks with disco and house samples. Fullertonian: I'm likin
Last Thursday the September installment of “Gustavo’s Awesome Lecture Series” resumed at the Fullerton Public Library featuring an interview with political cartoonist, Lalo Alcaraz. Gustavo Arellano and Alcaraz exchanged witty banter recounting Alcaraz’s background in journalism and showcasing some of his best pieces. Alcaraz narrated his family history and how he came to develop an interes
Fullerton locals, Orange SkyBlue, are releasing a full length LP entitled Laurel Canyon. The release has been anticipated by the band, but what ads to the intrigue of their latest album is that a few of their tracks got picked up by a straight-to-DVD movie, entitled When did you guys start working with Laurel Canyon’s producer Luke Tierney?
Connor Crowe and Haream Hyun are Damonos. They are a relatively new group that targets all ages. Damonos have performed locally in Fullerton as well as Los Angeles. They are very much rooted in the Electro House scene with their own unique sound to create the feel of originality. Damonos have a burning desire for recognition from Fullerton locals as well as people all around Orange County. T
Last Thursday the Voodoo Glowskulls played at Slidebar. The band helped popularize the Ska Punk sound that was popular in Orange County in the 90’s and even brought it to world-wide attention.
Homophobes need not apply. Black Fag might be led by the super femme front man, Liberace Morris, but the band that backs him can play these trademarked chord progressions as if they were their own. Essentially this show consists of campy versions of one of the greatest hardcore groups of the 80’s, but they no doubt throws a flamboyant twist into the mix by incorporating a theatrical aspect.
Fullerton gets major credit in Orange County as major contributors to Punk music, and Agent Orange plays a huge part in establishing that credit. They were, if not the first, a band who fused surf and punk music, and in turn established the skate-core scene. The show on Monday had a massive turnout of loyal supporters, despite that it was held on the most hated day of the week.
Thirty people sat in the room, of which I was one of the youngest, while Ross Moore performed folk music most people my age take for granted. Ross had gotten me interested in the music, because of the context and the period in which it was made. He performed Guthrie tracks about outlaws like Pretty Boy Floyd, and made references to other outlaws like Harvey Dillinger and George “Baby Face” Nelson

Warfair is a relatively new local Fullerton crust punk band. I was able to sit one on one with Jonathan Martinez the guitarist to find out more information about the band. I think they are very unique in the aspect of their clothing attire. They wear costumes and make-up during their performances and are based upon a carnival theme.Their style is very ingenious and original. I've never met a band
Slidebar Cafe has been having an ever increasing crop of top-of-the-line acts performing on their stage. Way up near the top of this list is the seminal 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s punk rock band Dead Kennedys.
I usually don’t dance because I suck at it, but I might at the show this Sunday at Commonwealth Lounge, because these guys know how to get a crowd moving. Su Blah Nu puts out tracks that are moody, yet keep things catchy and upbeat. I find myself comparing them to Data Rock, Caesar’s, and even early Interpol albums.
According to the site, California took the lions share at $23 billion. Only New York comes close at $13 billion. That is in dollars awarded.
True Stories and Bad Ideas - track 1You’re traditionally used to playing Punk. How easy has the transition into something more theatrical been?
But is this what made America great? Will we be able to stop people providing automated services to protect other peoples quaint employments? If we applied this principle consistently, instead of this peace-meal manner, would we all be hoeing wheat and eating gruel?
